How do I add the widget?
Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen until Customize appears, choose the Lock Screen, tap the area below the clock, find Daily Seal and pick the rectangle.
Home Screen: touch and hold an empty spot on the Home Screen until the apps jiggle, tap Edit then Add Widget, find Daily Seal, and choose a size.
The app shows the same steps in its Widget tab.
Why doesn’t the word change when I unlock my phone?
iOS does not tell a widget when the phone is picked up or unlocked, so no iPhone widget can react to it. Daily Seal changes the word on the schedule you choose in the Widget tab, from every 30 minutes to once a day. iOS decides exactly when a widget redraws, so a change can take a moment to appear.
The widget is blank or stuck on an old word
Open the app once: that refreshes the widget’s schedule. If it is still stuck, remove the widget and add it again. If you know every word at the levels you picked, the widget has nothing left to show — pick more levels in the Levels tab.
How do I stop a word coming back?
Tap the word on the widget to open its card, then tap I know it. Known words stop appearing on the widget. You can find them again in the Library tab.
Can I see meanings in my own language?
Yes. Meanings and example sentences come in English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. Pick one under Settings → Word meanings. The app itself can use any of those languages too, under Settings → App language. With Vietnamese, words also show their Sino-Vietnamese reading (âm Hán Việt) when Vietnamese has that word.
Simplified or traditional characters?
Both. Switch under Settings → Chinese characters. The whole app and every widget follow.
Which words are in it?
All 11,092 words of the HSK 3.0 standard, levels 1 to 9 (levels 7 to 9 are one list). Pinyin, English meanings and both scripts come from CC-CEDICT. Meanings in the other languages and the example sentences were written with AI, based on those English meanings. The Data sources screen in Settings lists every source.
A meaning is wrong
Email us the word and what is wrong with it. Corrections arrive with app updates.
There is no sound, or it sounds robotic
Pronunciation uses the Chinese voice installed on your iPhone. If none is installed, add one in the iOS Settings app under Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Chinese. Enhanced and Premium voices sound much better; choose the one Daily Seal uses under Settings → Chinese voice.
Does my progress move to a new iPhone?
Not yet. Daily Seal keeps everything on the one iPhone and does not sync.
How do I start over?
Settings → Reset progress clears known and saved words and keeps your settings. Settings → Retake the placement quiz sets your levels again.
What does it store about me?
Your progress and settings, on the phone only. No account, no server, no analytics. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Which iPhones does it run on?
iOS 18 or later. iPhone only.
