What DonePix is for
You shoot before, progress and after photos on the job, they file themselves under that job with the date, time and address stamped on, and before you leave the site you send the client a PDF report with your business name on the cover. That is the whole app.
Where are my photos? They are not in my camera roll
They are inside DonePix, filed under the job, which is the point — your camera roll stays yours, and a job’s photos stay together instead of scattered through six months of everything else.
If you also want them in the Photos app, turn on Settings → Photo Storage → Also Save to Photos. From then on each photo you take is copied, with its stamp, into a “DonePix” album. Photos taken before you switched it on are not copied retroactively.
The stamp shows the time but no address
DonePix needs location permission to know where you are, and it asks the first time you open the camera. If it was refused, open the iPhone’s Settings app → DonePix → Location and choose While Using the App.
Two more reasons an address can be missing even with permission granted:
- No signal. Turning a coordinate into a street address needs a connection. The coordinate is still saved with the photo, and the address fills in later.
- Nothing to name. Out on a rural lot there may be no street address to return.
You can also turn the address off yourself, per stamp template, in Settings → Photo Stamp.
Can I change what the stamp looks like?
Settings → Photo Stamp, or the Templates button on the camera screen while you are shooting. There are three dozen templates, and you choose which lines appear — date and time, address, GPS coordinates, client name, your business name, your logo — which corner it sits in, and how big it is. The size slider goes from 60% to 180%; on a bright wall in full sun, bigger and a darker template reads better.
How do I send a report?
Open the job, press Report, then Send. iOS then offers Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, AirDrop — whatever you have. The client gets an ordinary PDF; they need nothing installed.
On the report screen you can choose which photos go in, whether captions, your job note and the checklist are printed, and how many photos per page. The chips along the top switch each of those.
The report says JOB REPORT. Can it say something else?
Yes. Settings → Company Profile → Report Title, or the Company & Title button on the report screen. “Service Report”, “Inspection Report”, whatever your trade calls it. The same screen holds the business name, phone, email, licence number and logo printed on the cover.
How do I write an estimate or an invoice?
Open the job and tap Estimate or Invoice, then New Estimate or New Invoice, and Add Item for each line. When the client accepts an estimate, Turn into Invoice makes the invoice from it. Send shares that one document as a PDF; the photo report is sent separately, from the report screen, so a messaging app that takes one file at a time does not drop either.
When the client pays, tap Mark as Paid. An unpaid invoice past its due date shows as Overdue, and the job list shows what each job is still owed.
Where do I set tax, numbering and how I get paid?
Settings → Estimates & Invoices. Choose one tax rate for every document or a rate per document, turn on Second Tax for a second line (GST and PST, TPS and TVQ), set the numbering prefixes, and type your How to Pay instructions. Tax applies only to items marked taxable. Your Tax Registration numbers go in Settings → Company Profile.
DonePix does not look up tax rates by state or province; it uses the ones you type. The rate is copied into each document when it is made, so a later change does not alter one already sent.
Can the client’s paperwork be in another language?
Yes. The app itself follows the iPhone’s language — English, Spanish or Canadian French — and Settings → Paperwork Language sets the language of reports, estimates, invoices and the photo stamp separately.
What is free, and what does Pro add?
The free plan keeps three jobs, with everything else switched on: the camera and its stamps, the checklist, markup, the PDF report, estimates and invoices, and iCloud sync. Reports, estimates and invoices made on it carry a small “Made with DonePix” line in the footer of each page.
DonePix Pro lifts the three-job limit and removes that line, so the report carries your company and nothing else. It is $9.99 a month, or $49.99 a year with the first three days free, from Settings → Upgrade to DonePix Pro or when you reach for a fourth job. Cancel any time in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions; cancelling during the trial costs nothing.
Jobs you already have are never locked. If a subscription lapses, every job you made stays open — you can edit it, shoot into it and send its report. Only making a new job past the limit stops.
Already subscribed on another iPhone? Settings → Restore, with the same Apple Account.
What is the “Made with DonePix” line at the bottom?
The free version prints it in the footer of each page of a report, an estimate or an invoice. It is never printed on your photos — the photos are your evidence and they stay clean. DonePix Pro removes it.
iCloud sync
Settings → Photo Storage → Sync with iCloud. It is off until you turn it on. With it on, your jobs, photos, estimates, invoices and company details are copied into your own private iCloud so your other iPhone or iPad sees the same jobs.
If the other device shows nothing:
- Both devices must be signed into the same Apple Account, and sync switched on in DonePix on each of them.
- iCloud must be on for DonePix — iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud → see all apps.
- Give it a minute. Sync runs in the background and is not instant, especially on a first run with a lot of photos.
- Check your iCloud storage. If it is full, new photos stay on the iPhone until there is room; the app says so in Photo Storage.
Turning sync off leaves everything on the iPhone, and leaves what is already in iCloud where it is.
Photos are eating my storage
Settings → Photo Storage → Quality. Medium is the default and is sharp enough for a report and for settling a dispute, at roughly a tenth of Original’s size. It applies to photos taken from then on.
Clean Up DonePix Photos on the same screen removes the copies in your Photos app — from finished jobs, or from jobs older than 30 or 90 days. It never touches the photos inside DonePix, so your reports stay intact.
Can I mark up a photo?
Open the photo and press Mark Up: draw an arrow or a circle on the leak, the crack, the loose wire. The drawing is kept separately from the photo, so you can clear it later and the original is untouched.
Can I use it on iPad?
DonePix is built for iPhone — it is used one-handed on site. It runs on iPad in iPhone compatibility mode, but the layout is not designed for that screen.
Deleting your data
Delete a photo or a job inside the app, or delete the app to remove everything on that iPhone. If iCloud sync was on, the copy in iCloud goes when you delete the jobs from a synced device, or you can remove DonePix’s data in the iPhone’s iCloud settings.
