How do I add the widget?
Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, choose the Lock Screen, tap the area below the clock, and pick Marble.
Home Screen: touch and hold an empty spot on the Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle, tap Edit then Add Widget, search for Marble, pick a size and tap Add Widget.
The app shows the same steps with pictures under Settings → How to add the widget.
How does the day’s passage work?
Every day of the year has one passage, the same for everyone, numbered by the day (Nº 278 is the 278th day). Opening the app on a day adds that day’s piece to your collection. A day you miss stays empty — it cannot be picked up later.
The widget shows the day’s passage until midnight. Under Settings → Change the passage it can change every 1, 2, 4 or 6 hours instead.
Why does the small widget show a different passage?
The small widget and the Lock Screen widget only show a passage that fits whole. When the day’s passage is too long for them, they show a short passage by the same author instead, and always the same one for that day.
Where do the passages come from?
Every passage is cited to its book and section, from Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations, Epictetus’s Enchiridion, and Seneca’s letters and essays. The English is from the classic translations of George Long, Aubrey Stewart and Richard M. Gummere; the Spanish is from nineteenth-century translations; the Vietnamese is Marble’s own translation. The app shows the language of your iPhone, or the one you choose under Settings → Language.
A passage looks wrong
Tap Settings → Report a wrong passage. It opens an email that already says which passage and which translation it is about; add a line on what is wrong and send it. Corrections arrive with app updates.
Can I use several paintings?
Yes. Tap the palette button at the top of the main screen, or go to Settings → Background, choose Painting, then tap as many paintings as you like, or turn on All paintings. With several chosen, each passage gets one of them, so the painting changes as you swipe from passage to passage. The paintings are public-domain works from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Open Access collection, credited under each one.
Does my collection move to a new iPhone?
Yes, if both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account with iCloud turned on for Marble. Your collection, saved passages and settings sync. Without iCloud the app works fully but keeps everything on the one device.
The widget is blank or stuck on an old passage
Open the app once: that refreshes the widget. If it is still stuck, remove the widget and add it again. iOS decides exactly when a widget redraws, so a change can take a moment to appear.
What does it store about me?
Your collection, saved passages and settings, on the phone and in your own iCloud. No account, no server, no analytics. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Which iPhones does it run on?
iOS 18 or later. iPhone only.
