A mileage log for people who drive for work

Milestamp is a mileage tracker for self-employed people in the US who drive their own car for work: real estate agents, tradespeople who go to customers’ homes, consultants on their way to clients.

The deduction stands or falls on the log. What an IRS mileage log must show goes through each detail the IRS asks for, and commuting miles vs business miles covers which drives count at all — the drive from home to a regular place of work never does.

It is not released. There is no App Store listing and no release date yet. This page says what the app is being built for, and the details will change before it ships.

What it is for

The business mileage deduction is only as good as the log behind it. For each business trip that log needs the date, where you went, the miles and the business purpose, recorded at or near the time you drove.

Recording the drive is the part most trackers already do well. What falls behind is sorting the trips — deciding which drives were business and which were personal, while you still remember where the two o’clock one went.

Milestamp is being built around that moment: sorting a trip as it ends, and keeping a log that shows when each entry was recorded and when it was changed.
