VocabPeek Privacy Policy
This policy covers VocabPeek: Daily Word Widget for iOS, published by Sang Cao.
The short version
VocabPeek collects nothing. There is no account to create, no server we run, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDK of any kind in the app. The words, their meanings and the photos are built into the app, so it never downloads content either. What you do in the app stays on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud account if you use one.
What stays on your device
- Your progress: which words you have seen, marked as known or saved, and when each is due for review.
- Your lists and your own words, including the meanings and examples you write for them.
- Your settings: level, word set, meaning language, how often the word changes, quiet hours, reminders, appearance and the photos you picked.
These are stored in a space on the device shared by the app and its widgets, so the widgets can show your words and record a tap on their buttons.
Your iCloud account
If you are signed in to iCloud, VocabPeek keeps your progress, lists, own words and settings in sync between your devices through Apple’s iCloud — the app’s private CloudKit database and iCloud key-value storage, both held in your iCloud account. We cannot read that data; Apple’s privacy policy applies to it.
If you are not signed in, or you turn iCloud off for VocabPeek in the iOS Settings app, the app works exactly the same and simply does not sync.
Features that run on your iPhone
- Pronunciation uses the English voice built into iOS. Nothing is sent anywhere to produce it.
- Reminders are local notifications, scheduled on the device. The app asks for permission to send them only if you choose to get reminders, and never otherwise.
- Suggested translations for words you add yourself use Apple’s Translation framework, which runs on the device. If the language is not downloaded yet, iOS asks you before it downloads it from Apple.
- Search finds the base form of a word (went → go) with the language tools built into iOS.
- Shared images of a word are drawn on the device and go only where you send them from the share sheet. If you choose Save Image there, iOS asks once for permission to add photos to your library. That permission lets the app add images, not see the photos you already have, and it is the only other permission the app asks for.
When you write to us
Report a wrong meaning on a word card opens a draft in your own mail app. It is addressed to us and already contains the word, its level and ID, your meaning language and the app version, so the report can be fixed without asking you again. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply and to fix what you reported.
Deleting your data
- Settings → Reset progress in the app deletes your progress on this device and, through iCloud, on your other devices.
- Lists and your own words can each be deleted in the Words tab.
- Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device. What is in iCloud can be removed through iCloud storage management in the iOS Settings app.
Children
VocabPeek is not directed at children, and collects nothing from anyone.
Changes
If the app’s behaviour changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
